Former West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has been appointed manager of Chinese Super League Beijing Guoan.

The 52-year-old Croatian was sacked by West Brom in December after picking up seven points from their opening 13 games of the Premier League season.

Beijing announced on social media and said they had decided not to renew the contract of Frenchman Bruno Genesio, who guided them to a third-place finish in the Chinese Super League last season as well as the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League.

The new Chinese Super League season starts in the spring but is likely to take place in a Covid-secure 'bubble'.

Bilic has had six previous jobs in club management after spells with Hadjuk Split, Lokomotiv Moscow, Besiktas, West Ham, Al Ittihad and West Brom.

The former Everton and West Ham defender also spent six years in charge of the Croatian national team when he guided them to the European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
