Rent in the city makes up over half of a single person's minimum living costs.

That's according to a new report from think-tank TASC, which found that 1 in 3 renters in debt are struggling to pay back the money.

40 per cent of people in the private rented sector are unable to save on a regular basis.

Gwen Harris from the Money Advice and Budgeting Service says people in debt can often feel confused and scared:

She says "We still meet with people who are in debt, very much deep in debt, isolated, not able to talk to anybody, very much alone". "If anybody felt in that situation at the moment and they're listening I would say just reach out, make a phone call to a MABS office, make a phonecall to our national helpline or walk into a MABS office".
