Rebekah Vardy has lost her ‘Wagatha Christie’ libel trial.

Ms Vardy had sued Coleen Rooney for publicly accusing her of leaking “false stories” to the media in 2019.

Ms Rooney, the wife of former England star Wayne, was dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’ for the methods she used in an attempt to find out who was leaking stories about her.

In a series of tweets she said she posted three fake stories posted to her personal Instagram page and only made them available to Ms Vardy – the wife of Leicester star Jamie Vardy.

When the stories made their way to The Sun newspaper, she believed she had found her culprit.

Ms Vardy sued Ms Rooney and the high-profile trial took place at the High Court in London in May.

She denied leaking the stories and told the court how she thought she might pass out when she first heard about Ms Rooney's allegations.

In her judgment, Judge Justice Steyn said Ms Rooney had succeeded in establishing that the essence of the libel was substantially true – essentially finding that Ms Vardy was responsible for leaking the stories.

The court praised Ms Rooney's evidence as "honest and reliable", but labelled Ms Vardy's evidence: "manifestly inconsistent... evasive or implausible".
