CIE has unveiled a plan to develop 1,000 apartments near Heuston Station.

The 'Heuston Masterplan' is described as a visionary blueprint for the transformational development of western end of Dublin City.

The 10-hectare site around Heuston Station is set to be transformed into a 'largely car-free' mixed-use development that will include more than 1,000 residential units.

Group Chief Executive of CIE Lorcan O’Connor says they'll also deliver new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

Commercial, residential, retail and leisure units and 5,000 bike parking spaces will also form part of the development.

While around a kilometre of river frontage along the Liffey will be developed to include a boardwalk.

Planning permission won't be applied or until 2023.

It is expected the development will take up to 15 years to complete.
