A family friendly bike festival is taking place in Fairview Park in Dublin on Sunday, September 12th.

Organised by Dublin City Council, Pedalpalooza is a community cycling event that aims to promote and celebrate the benefits of cycling and encourage more people to travel by bike.

It's part of national Bike Week, coordinated by the National Transport Authority, which is running from September 12th to 18th.

Pedalpalooza kicks off at 1pm and activities will be taking place in the park until 5pm.

These include workshops, music, bicycle demonstrations and maintenance, as well as cycling tours around the area.

Antonia Martin is the Active Travel Communication, Engagement & Promotion Manager

She is encouraging people to get to the park by bike if they can.

"We've got loads of temporary bike parking down by the park so it will be safe for people to tie up their bikes," says Martin.

Some of the activities can be registered for online through the Dublin City Council website and numbers attending the event will be monitored in line with Covid-19 restrictions.

Bike Week

More events will be run throughout the week in Dublin for Bike Week.

There will be lunchtime cycles in the city during the week and bikes will be provided by Dublin City Council at all of these.

"We're trying to get new people onto bikes as well," says Martin.

"We want people to come and try and then hopefully they'll enjoy and they'll maybe think about taking up some scheme like cycle to work."

Bike maintenance will also take place on the Grand Canal on Tuesday from 8am to 2pm.
