Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says Republic of Ireland youth striker Troy Parrott could be part of his first-team plans this season.

The 17-year-old Dubliner started in Spurs' latest pre-season game against Juventus and was a key player for their under-19 side last year, scoring three goals in the UEFA Youth League.

He also trained with the first-team ahead of their match with Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League group stages last season.

With Vincent Janssen set to swap North London for Monterrey, Pochettino feels Parrott could be fast-tracked to the senior squad.

"We’re working with the young players, trying to provide the best platform and possibility for them to perform and be comfortable with the first team.

"He’s still so young but we’ll see what happens at the end of the transfer window. if we have the squad that we have today, of course he's going to have the possibility to be with the first team.

Tottenham legend Ledley King coached Parrott at under-18 level and he's told Football London that the young forward has a big future at the club. .

"He's in a great place where we have a manager almost wants young players to give him that problem, to come into the first team and that's not always the case elsewhere," the former Tottenham defender told football.london as he helped coach children from Shanghai Spurs Supporters Club.

"There are a lot of other teams and managers who look to buy first rather than trying to develop a player.

"Troy is an exciting prospect at the moment and I think what we like about him is his work ethic. He's one of those players who rolls up his sleeves and puts in a shift for the team, regardless of how well he's playing. He's always putting in that work rate.
