Norman insists Super Golf League will go ahead

Greg Norman says the dates for the first events in the Super Golf League will be revealed in the coming days.

The Saudi-backed project has been described as 'dead in the water' by Rory McIlroy.

A number of golfers were said to be considering joining the new venture, but have since rowed back on their plans.

There was also a major controversy following comments from Phil Mickelson.

However, in a letter to players today, Norman - who is the main organiser - says the plans will proceed.

"We may start with a modest number of players, but we won't stay that way for long," Norman said, in his capacity as LIV Investments CEO.

"I fully understand some players may choose not to play with us right away. But after we get going, I believe many of those who aren't with us now will be worth us later."

The communication goes on to reassure players that the Super Golf League will work alongside their existing schedules.

"Our intention is to offer additional exciting tournaments in which you can play," Norman writes.

"Golf, as with other sports, should be open to new and different formats that will be exciting, while increasing interest in the game.

"We plan to appeal to a younger fan base and minimize the wear and tear on your bodies to ensure you make the most of your career.

"In short, we will give fans more of what they want - more passion, more impact, more fun and more viewerships - for fans of all ages."

Norman's message concludes with a plea to players to 'keep an open mind' on the proposals.

"You should know that we are launching and we will continue to drive this vision forward," he explains.

"We will not stop. We believe in our mission and will announce information about our first events tomorrow.

"While we respect that some of you may have concerns, know that we will work tirelessly with you to alleviate them.

"Our goal always will be to let you focus on your playing performance, while benefitting from new opportunities, whenever you are ready for them."
