Gardai allege a man charged with having a 9mm handgun in Ballymun was acting as a “courier”.
Michael Hanney of Marewood Crescent, Ballymun was arrested after the gun was seized following the search of a car earlier this week.
He was one of two men taken in for questioning after a car was stopped on Carton Way in Ballymun at 5pm on Monday.
What appeared to be a firearm and some ammo were found inside the car.
Tests revealed the gun was a 9mm Russian made Makarov handgun. Mr. Hanney was charged with possession and appeared in court today.
The judge heard it would be alleged that the 22-year-old was “in the role of courier rather than anything more sinister”.
Despite a Garda objection, he was granted bail subject to certain conditions and is due back in court in September.
The second man was released without charge.
