A woman in her 60s is in a critical condition in hospital after an apartment fire in Dublin.

Four fire engines, along with local gardaí, responded to reports from the Goatstown Close area.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade says the first emergency calls came in shortly after 2 o'clock this morning.

Fire engines from Rathfarnham, Donnybrook and Dolphins Barn were scrambled.

Firefighters, using breathing equipment, entered the "well developed" blaze in a downstairs unit, and removed a woman.

She was given treatment on the scene shortly before she was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital, where she remains critical.

There were no other injuries reported.
