Gardai are hoping somebody out there can help them find whoever killed a young man in the north inner city on this day seven years ago.

21-year-old Gavin McCarthy was gunned down in front of his younger brother outside a local takeaway.

In 2008, the 19th of October fell on a Sunday, and at around 9 that evening, Gavin McCarthy went to a Chinese takeaway on Lower Sheriff Street with his younger brother Daniel and some friends.

A man cycled up to the group, pulled out a handgun and shot Gavin in the face and upper body from close range.

The shooter ran through a lane in the Sheriff Football Club, down along the artificial pitch beside it, onto Commons Street. He turned left towards North Wall Quay and the IFSC and has never been caught.

Gardai believe someone out there knows something that could help bring this man to justice and are appealing to anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward.
