The country is being battered this morning by heavy rain and strong winds from Storm Desmond.

3,600 homes are without power - including houses in Dublin city centre, Rathfarnham, Stepaside and Greenhills.

Five weather alerts are still in place around the country, with a Status Red rainfall alert in force for parts of the west.

Flights to and from many airports were delayed or cancelled last night.

Siobhan O'Donnell is from the Dublin Airport Authority:

Drivers are being urged to take extra caution on the roads, and to avoid long journeys if possible.

98FM listener Mark Devereux sent us an image of a row of cars crushed by a fallen tree on Nutgrove Avenue.
