Dublin City Council will begin issuing ballots today to roughly 3,000 businesses to vote on the future of DublinTown.

The business promotion body's contract comes up for renewal every five years and some businesses have called for it to be scrapped due to the rates involved.

Voting will take place over the next three weeks, with an announcement expected later in April.

Dublin Town CEO, Richard Guiney, believes the support's there for another term;

"Certainly the feedback we have and quotes that we have from businesses, that they see it as being value for money and it's obviously for DublinTown to ensure that people continue to see that as being an investment that is value for money."

He says if renewed; "DublinTown will continue to provide the city’s Christmas lights, graffiti removal and rapid response cleaning, footfall monitoring and will lobby Government, Dublin City Council and other key stakeholders on members’ behalf."
