An overwhelming number of Gardai are expected to carry a vote of no confidence in the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris this morning.

It's the first time in the 100-year history of the organisation that a such a ballot has been taken.

Turnout is expected to exceed 70 per cent .

The President of the Garda Representative Association Brendan O'Connor says proposed changes to rosters was the final straw for members of the force.

''The level of dissatisfaction and discontentment has been growing for the past number of years. But I think it's no secret the issue that pushed this over the line and pushed members into this situation is the attitude towards rosters, their work life balance and the impact it has on their welfare.''
