Variable speed limits will be introduced on the M50.
It's one of a number of measures to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
These changes planned for the motorway are in an attempt to make it work better.
The main one is to introduce variable speed limits at peak times to allow a better flow of traffic.
This will come into force over three years.
In the next 12 months measures to be introduced include new signage to direct motorists to other routes in the event of a crash and new orbital bus routes to reduce gridlock.
It comes amid growing concern about rising traffic volumes on the motorway which caters for 350 thousand vehicles a day.
