A 24-year-old Irish man who was killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday night in Vancouver, Canada, has been named as Eoghan Byrne.

Tributes are pouring in for the young man, who's originally from Skerries in Dublin, with his family calling him an 'adored son' and a 'beautiful brother.'

Byrne was crossing the road at an intersection at around 11.30 on Sunday night when he was struck by a speeding car which then fled - he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old man and his 63-year-old relative have reportedly been arrested in connection with the crime - both suspects were released pending further investigation.

The Vancouver Police Department said investigators “spent the night collecting evidence from the crime scene and have spoken to a number of witnesses."

Byrne began working in a biotechnology company in Vancouver in April of this year after graduating with a science degree from Trinity College Dublin.

The Skerries local was incredibly popular among his vast network of friends, who have expressed their absolute devastation.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
