Kobe Bryant, considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time, has died in a helicopter crash.

Nine people were on board the aircraft when it came down in bad weather in a remote field off Las Virgenes near Los Angeles.

Among them was one of his four daughters, 13 year-old Gianna.

The 41 year-old played his entire 20-year career in the National Basketball Association with the Los Angeles Lakers, winning five NBA championships.

Bryant retired in 2016 as the third highest scorer in NBA history and held that spot until LeBron James passed his total just last night.

Those paying tribute include Donald Trump, sprinter Usain Bolt and singer John Legend.

Last night NBA players started a match in Texas by stopping the clock for 24 seconds, Bryant's shirt number.
