Thousands of people who plan to vote in next month's referendums say their names have been struck off the register without them knowing.

Dublin City Council removed almost three thousand names in the first three months of this year - more than three times the number for the same time last year.

Fine Gael Councillor Noel Rock says names should only be taken off if a person dies, or moves address.

Dublin City Council says it's aware of a technical problem whereby not everyone's street name is included.

It doesn't mean they are not registered though, and the best way of clearing that up is to contact its franchise section.

The deadline for getting on the voter list, registering a change of address or registering to vote in a new area is the 5th of May.
