Thousands Of Homes Planned For Finglas

Plans have been approved to build over 3 thousand homes close to Finglas .

The area around Jamestown Business Park will be regenerated to allow for the homes, a primary school and community facilities.

The area could house 8 thousand people once completed.

Dublin City Council approved the measure at a meeting last night.

Deirdre Scully from Dublin City Council was keen to point out that it's not a new town, which had been reported, but an expansion of Finglas.

''What we are seeking to achieve with this master plan is not to create a new town (with the greatest of respect to our colleagues in the press) but to revitalise an existing village within Finglas so that we support the existing population and build on the concept of a 50 minute city.''

Councillor Mary Callaghan is concerned too many homes and not enough facilities are planned.

''We already have lower facilities in Finglas than other places and we have been promised so many upgrades to infrastructure, to roundabouts, to big junctions and to sport facilities and none of them have been delivered. It's very disappointing to be on this council and represent an area that seems to be left behind.''
