Teenager Arrested In Connection With Temple Bar Assault

A teenager has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Temple Bar on Friday night.

He has since been released and will be referred to the Youth Diversion Programme.

A man in his 40s was assaulted on Fownes Street Lower just before 10pm, and was taken to St James' Hospital with serious injuries.

A Garda spokesperson says: "Gardaí in Pearse Street investigating the serious assault that occurred in Temple Bar, Dublin on Fownes Street Lower on the evening of Friday 19th August, 2022 arrested a juvenile aged in his teens.

"He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and has since been released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme in relation to this incident.

"Investigations are ongoing."

Witnesses

On Saturday gardai issued this update: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an incident of assault which occurred in Temple Bar, Dublin, yesterday evening, 19th August 2022.

"Gardaí attended the scene following reports of a man being assaulted by a number of other men on Fownes Street Lower. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50pm.
"A man aged in his 40s was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel before being taken to St James’ Hospital.  His injures are believed to be serious but non-life threatening."
