United Left Alliance TD Joan Collins is due in court this morning in relation to a public order charge arising from a water charge protest.

Three other protesters are also due to be served with books of evidence for allegedly abusing and insulting the president.

Earlier this month, the District Court dealt with 32 cases involving people who allegedly broke the law during various water charge protests in Dublin.

Deputy Joan Collins was one of eleven charged with public order offences in relation to a protest which took place as water meters were being installed on April 20th last year.

Her solicitor claims the protest was “unusually policed” and said he’d be looking for any correspondence between Irish Water and the Gardai something that doesn’t exist, according to the prosecution.

Three others are also due in court this morning after being charged with using threatening, insulting or abusive language towards President Michael D. Higgins back in January.
