Taxi fares are set to rise by around 4 per cent nationally from today.
While the initial charge for a journey has been reduced from 4 euro 10 cent to 3 euro 60 cent, the cost for the distance travelled is going up.
The increase is on the kilometre rate which has gone up from 1 euro 3 cent to 1 euro 10 cent but if the journey is over 15 kilometres, the tariff goes up to 1 euro 45.
It means shorter fairs will cost slightly more, and medium fares up to 30 kilometres will have a more noticeable change but longer fares will show a reduction in price.
It's the first time fares have increased since 2008.
And CEO of Dublin taxi app 'Lynk' Noel Ebbs says they aren't likely to go up again anytime soon.
