Some taxi drivers are raising concerns about the prospect of taxi-sharing being introduced in Dublin.
MyTaxi has been looking at offering passengers the option to share a cab and split the fare for some time, but it's understood the company is now close to launching the service.
Cab sharing is already in operation in a number of cities in other countries, including New York and London.
Some taxi drivers who are against the idea argue that it will mean less business for them, and they also say they are concerned about passenger safety.
Jim Waldron from the National Private Hire and Taxi Association believes cab-sharing could be dangerous.
"The taxi driver you get in with is a stranger, but they have been vetted by the police", he said.
However, he argued that "the person you invite into the taxi beside you... it only has to go wrong once".
Speaking to 98FM's Dublin Talks, Jim Waldron asked "What happens if a guy or a lady gets into a car and the person beside them drops the hand on them?"
The National Private Hire and Taxi Association is organising a protest against taxi-sharing, which will be held near the offices of MyTaxi on Monday.
