A Tallaght woman accused of helping her friend to take her own life has been found not guilty.
Gail O'Rorke shed tears of relief in court as a jury accuitted her of tyring to help a friend kill herself.
In a written statement, the 43 year old from Kilclare Gardens, Tallaght, thanked her friends and family for their support through what she described as 'a truly gruelling ordeal'.
Gail O'Rorke was accused of attempting to assist the suicide of her friend, multiple sclerosis sufferer Bernadette Forde by making travel arrangements to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland in 2011.
The booking was cancelled when the travel agent contacted gardai over concerns about its legality.
Bernadette Forde subsequently ended her life with a lethal overdose.
Right to die advocate Tom Curran, whose late partner Marie Fleming took a right to die case to the Supreme Court said the DPP should never have opted to prosecute.
In a written statement issued this evening Gail O'Rorke said the past four years had been very difficult and she asked the media to respect her privacy.
