Construction of the Sutton to Sandycove cycleway around Dublin Bay is to get underway this summer.
Its likely to take several years to competed but when finished, the full route will provide a 22 kilometre cycleway around the bay.
Dublin City Council is asking contractors to build the first 2 kilometre section from the Wooden Bridge to Causeway Road in Clontarf at a cost of over 5 million euro.
Its expected to be completed in 16 months.
It comes as the number of free bikes scheme in Dublin is set to increase almost 10 fold within 4 years.
There are currently 550 bikes available and that will go up to 5000.
