A soldier will find out today if his sentence and conviction for a drunken street fight in the city centre is going to be struck out.

Andrew Gilmore of Gormanstown Army Barracks got involved in brawl after a night of binge drinking two years ago.

He and fellow soldier Michael Kearney from Strabane, Co. Tyrone had been drinking heavily in the Temple bar area on Feb 9 2012.

Shortly after leaving a nightclub, a row broke out at the Central Bank Plaza between the two soldiers, another two men and a woman.

Gilmore knocked one man unconscious and assaulted the other two, while Kearney was caught on CCTV kicking one of the victims on the ground.

Both pleaded guilty and faced an automatic discharge from the army.

At their sentence hearing, the judge decided to let Kearney off with a fine and he also gave his co-accused a chance to prove himself.

Gilmore is due back in court today and his criminal conviction could be thrown out if he has kept himself out of trouble and hands in a good probation record.
