We're used to getting yellow weather alerts from Met Eireann for wind and rain but today the yellow weather warning is for sunshine!

This summer is shaping up to the hottest we've had in Ireland since the seventies. Met Eireann isn't calling it a heatwave yet but forecaster Pat Clarke  says we should prepare for the warm weather to last.

"Going forward, it's going to stay very warm, if not, hot this week with no obvious end in sight. We're still looking at temperatures in the high twenties next weekend."

Health Minister Simon Harris has urged the public to check in on elderly or isolated neighbours, and make sure babies or children aren't left alone in cars.

Anthony Flynn of Inner City Helping Homeless says the hot weather could be dangerous for rough sleepers.

He's appeal for people to donate suncream, while the charity is also mobilising to make sure rough sleepers have enough water.

"We're looking at putting hydration teams together to make sure that people on the streets say hydrated. There is a risk of heatstroke for people who are spending excessive amounts of time on the street."
