Dublin seems to have escaped pretty much all of it, but Met Eireann says - where it has - snow has stopped falling.

Temperatures are set to plummet to minus five tonight, but it won't be a white weekend. Conditions are expected to be cold but dry and bright in most places.

Forecaster Joanna Donnelly told us that's a big change from the 8 centimeters of snow that was predicted for today "we had some snow accumulating in parts of the North-West, but now we're looking at conditions becoming dry."

"It's over in most places. There's still a little dusting in parts, but most places will see some good sunshine."

Yesterday Met Eireann extended an orange weather alert with snow accumulations of up to eight centimeters predicted in counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until at least midday.

A status yellow snow/ice warning is also in effect for counties Longford, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon.
