Gardai are treating the shooting of a 17 year old boy in Dublin’s south inner city last night as attempted murder.

The boy could be heard begging for help moments after he was shot numerous times near the Coombe Hospital.

Residents ran out in panic and used towels to try and stem the blood.

"Crying for help"

A woman living nearby describes what she saw: "I heard two or three bangs. I thought it was the kids because we always hear fireworks around here but then we heard a car rev off and someone yell 'get in the car, get in the car'.

"The car drove off then and we heard the boy then start crying for help. Then all the neighbours came out.

"He was in an absolute panic, shouting, ‘please, please help'.

"The blood was coming from his face and he was awake even when they were taking him away into the ambulance.

"There was blood pouring from him but he was sitting up and asking questions about, ‘is it my face, where is it coming from?’

"He was still awake when they took him into the ambulance."

Surgery

The boy was brought to St James Hospital where he underwent surgery last night.

His injuries are serious but he is expected to pull through.

Technical officers have been examining the scene and a burnt out car was found near-by.

Gardai are treating it as attempted murder and are investigating it the shooting is drugs related.
