Gardai are renewing their appeal for information about the murder of a man in the city seven years ago.

Gavin McCarthy was shot dead on Sunday the 19th of October 2008 outside a fast food outlet on Lower Sheriff Street.

The 21 year old was with his brother and a number of other people when a man approached him on a bicycle and fired a handgun from close range into his face and upper body.

The man then fled the scene through a lane running between the Sheriff Football Club and the football pitch beside it - turning left in the direction of North Wall Quay and the IFSC.

Gardaí at Store Street believe people living within the North Wall Community know something and they are appealing to them to come forward.
