Secondary school teachers are set to hold a one day strike.

It's after members of the TUI voted 89 per cent in favour of industrial action.

They're angry at the pay and job security for young teachers.

TUI President Gerry Quinn says it's not a campaign for a pay increase in the conventional sense but about a large cohort of their members who suffer discriminatory pay and income poverty.

He says it's wrong, unfair and exploitation.

So far the strike only involves members of the TUI.

The strike will occur on a date before the General Election.
