An Italian man acquitted of the brutal killing of Tom O’Gorman in Castleknock is taking a legal case against the HSE.
Saverio Bellante was found not guilty of the murder by reason of insanity.
He was a lodger at Tom O’Gormans house in Beechpark Avenue in Castleknock in January 2014 and he admitted to gardai that he had stabbed him after a row broke out over a game of chess.
The 36 year old said he knew what he did was wrong but felt he had to because his friend was fighting the side of evil.
During his trial the court heard he had been taken anti-psychotic tablets for years but had come off them in January 2014.
The Italian was found not guilty of Tom O’Gorman’s murder last July by reason of insanity and has been in the Central Mental Hospital ever since.
Bellante is now taking a medical negligence case against the HSE and a doctor involved in his care.
Tom O’Gorman’s family is also taking a similar action.
