A legal action aimed at stopping a number of Moore Street buildings from being bulldozed is due to get underway today.

Numbers 14 to 17 are being preserved as national monuments, as they are believed to be the last buildings where the leaders of the Rising gathered before their surrender.

However there are plans to tear down numbers 13, 18 and 19 - which the Arts Minister Heather Humphreys says are not significant to the Easter Rising.

The plan is to replace these buildings with a commemorative centre for the Rising.

The 1916 Relatives Association believes the whole row should be saved from demolition.

One of the issues being raised is the criteria for a structure to be considered a national monument.

In a show of solidarity, Save Moore Street 2016 is hosting an 'Arms Around Moore' Street Family Event at 1pm today, starting at Sampson Place.

They're encouraging people to bring flags, Ireland or GAA Scarves and to dress in 1916 garb. However, they are asking people not to bring political banners or material.
