Saoirse Ronan Wins Best Actress At The Golden Globes

23 year old Saoirse Ronan has taken the Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress In a Musical or Comedy for her role in Ladybird.

She beat Judi Dench, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren to take the coveted prize at the awards ceremony in LA overnight.

Franes McDormand took Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri by London Irish director Martin McDonagh.

Gary Oldman won the equivalent award for his performance in Darkest Hour and James Franco picked up the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for The Disaster Artist.

Best Director went to Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water.

Saoirse's film Lady Bird also won Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy while there was more Irish success with Three Billboards taking Best Film.

Everyone's talking about Oprah Winfrey's speech. She became the first black woman to win the Cecil B DeMille award for outstanding contribution.

Most of the women and many of the men at the awards overnight wore black to highlight the issue of sexual harassment and abuse in the film industry.
