The redevelopment of Priory Hall will cost almost 3 times its originally estimation.
According to the Irish Times, work has started on the reconstruction of the fire trap complex built in 2007.
The refurbishment was thought to cost over 10 million euro but that's now jumped to over 27 million due to the extent of the project, which includes the removal of pyrite.
All 20 blocks will be taken down and reconstructed in stages with the work due to finish in May 2016.
Meanwhile Dublin City Council is to buy the 65 properties in a bid to sell them on to off set some of its costs.
