A rally in support of striking actors is taking place at St. Stephen's Green today.

The event is organised by Irish Equity, a group that represents professionals in the live performance and theatre sector in Ireland and is taking place from 2 pm at the Wolfe Tone monument.

The organisers and those in attendance are calling for actors to be valued in the film industry. They stand in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America.

The ongoing strikes surround concerns involving residual payments from streaming platforms and the use of AI in the acting industry.

Irish Equity encourages all members to attend and extends the invitation to everyone who is not involved in the industry, to show their support too.

Sector Organiser, Michelle Quinn, says workers on films need more protection:

"We need to ensure that we have agreements, etc, that futureproof  the rapid change that's occurring within the industry now."

The organisation adds that we must "act collectively to ensure that all crew, performers, writers and composers are truly valued and share in the success of the industry."

Those who wish to attend the rally are advised to gather at the monument at 1:30 pm, before the event officially commences at 2 pm.

Those who cannot attend today, but still wish to show their support, can do so by using the hashtags #SAGAFTRAstrike and #SAGAFTRAsolidarity.
