The coalition is reportedly considering new laws to recognise pre-nuptial agreements for marrying couples.
According to the Irish Independent, the Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald is investigating what impact pre-nups would have on families.
The Catholic Chruch is opposed to such legislation being brought forward, as they believe it would weaken the definition of marriage.
Under current law, pre-nups have no legal standing, but can be used as a guide in the division of assets in separation cases.
