Young people in Inchicore say they swim in the canal because it’s free and no local pools are open.

The heatwave has seen teens in wetsuits jump off bridges and canal locks in a bid to cool down.

The lock at Suir road is one of many being used by teens during the heatwave.

With no pools open in the local area, this group say they enjoy going to the canal because it’s fun and it’s free.

One of the closest pools to Suir Road is in Ballyfermot Sports and Fitness Centre, which has been closed for over a year because of problems with it.

Local Councillor Greg Kelly explained that the pool is under refurbishment after an issue with the tiles was discovered.

Dublin City Council said this evening that repair work is nearly finished and it’s due to reopen in September.
