People are being asked - where possible - to avoid going to the Emergency Department at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, due to overcrowding.
The hospital has deferred a number of non-urgent procedures planned for today and patients have been notified.
Beaumont says the hospital is working to relieve pressure on the Emergency Department and says the facility is keeping the situation under continuous review.
The Director of Nursing at Beaumont, Sheila McGuinness, has this advice for people.
