Irish Water says works at Leixlip water treatment plant are progressing well.

It's part of efforts to safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses in the Greater Dublin Area.

It's once again asking all customers to help it to reduce demand by conserving water.

People are being asked to turn off their tap while brushing their teeth and shaving which can save up to 6 litres of water per minute.

It says keeping a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the cold tap can save 10 litres of water per day.

Works to upgrade the filters are due to be complete in June 2020 and further works, including the provision of UV disinfection will also be completed this year.

Irish Water says while these works are underway, the water production capacity of Leixlip water treatment plant has been significantly reduced.
