The National Transport Authority has today announced the start of a public consultation on proposed new regulations on clamping.

The proposals include ending excessive fees to remove private clamps.

The plan would set a maximum €100 fee to have a clamp removed by a private company and cap the release fee on public roads at €100.

A 10 minutes grace period for those who have paid for parking is also in the plan.

Another idea is that all clamping companies would have to provide a full refund if a clamp isn't removed within two hours of the fee being paid.

People have until Wednesday 26th July 2017.

More than 56,000 vehicles were clamped by Dublin City Council last year, which raised about €4.5 million for the local authority.
