Paul Murphy has won the Dublin South West By Election.
The Anti-Austerity Alliance candidate beat Sinn Fein’s Cathal King on the final count.
Supporters cheered "No Way We Won't Pay" when his name was called out by returning officer in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.
Despite being behind by a few hundred votes through out the count, it was the transfers from Fine Gael's Cait Keane and Independent Ronan McMahon that got him over the finish line.
Speaking afterwards he said this was a referendum on water charges.
The new TD is expected to take up his seat on Budget Day on Tuesday
