We know about the DSPCA's work here in Dublin, investigating claims of animal cruelty and helping people to be better pet-owners. It links in with the ISPCA which is doing the same work nationwide.

The ISPCA wants more inspectors so members can help more animals in distress. Currently it only has 8 to cover 17 counties. Local SPCA groups step in to help share the workload.
This year, the society is planning to place one inspector in every county.

Over 1,100 animals were rescued by the society last year; more than 800 of those were dogs. 15,000 calls were made to its helpline, with 3,000 cases investigated.
The ISPCA started 35 prosecutions of animal cruelty in 2015, 9 of which are currently before the courts.
