Nurses and midwives with the INMO have voted to accept proposals to end their industrial dispute.

62% of the union's members voted in favour of the Labour Court proposals.

It comes after three days of strike action in January and February during a dispute over staff shortages and pay.

Tens of thousands of hospital procedures were cancelled during the action.

Further planned strike days were suspended after the Labour Court issued a number of proposals to resolve the dispute.

The measures include a commitment to safe staffing levels, and a higher salary scale for staff nurses and midwives.

An independent expert group will also look at pay for those in managerial grades, while extra promotional opportunities are also being promised.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said nurses and midwives fought hard for patient safety and staffing.

She said: "We are extremely proud of the safe, patient-focused strike organised by our strike committees.

“The government have committed to full implementation of these proposals. We now seek an immediate meeting with them to ensure this happens without delay."

She thanked the public for the support shown to INMO members during the strikes.
