This Sunday from 9am-12pm, 98FM will celebrate the life of our sports editor and dear friend Johnny Lyons.

This Sunday would have been the 422nd edition of Johnny’s hugely popular magazine show, Now That’s What I Call Sport.

The show, which first aired on June 10th 2007, was Johnny’s “baby” and was probably the thing he was most proud of in a long career in the radio and sport’s media industries.

We thought that it would only be right to pay tribute to the great man in the week of his untimely passing by dedicating a whole show to his life and times, only this one will be called, Now That’s What I Call Johnny!

The show, which normally airs every Sunday for one hour between 9 and 10 am, will be extended to three hours to fit in all the people who would like to talk about their own happy memories of Johnny.

The list of contributors is an incredible who’s who of the sport stars, fellow broadcasters and journalists and current and former colleagues.

The first ever guest on the first ever show was former Dublin forward and Hill 16 legend, Charlie Redmond and he will join one of the show’s regulars, former Dublin hurling manager Humphrey Kelleher, who was a guest on the last show that Johnny presented.

Former Republic of Ireland managers Mick McCarthy, Brian Kerr and current skipper Robbie Keane will join in with current Irish women’s senior manager Sue Ronan, League of Ireland legends Pat Fenlon, Mick Cooke and Trevor Croly in discussing Johnny and his indomitable passion for soccer.

The show will also feature Irish Olympic gold medallist and World Boxing champion Katie Taylor and her Dad Pete, who were great friends of the show. Former Irish rugby internationals Tony Ward, Shane Byrne and Mal O’Kelly will be on the phone along with one of Johnny’s favourite guests, Irish international badminton star Scott Evans.

Many of Johnny’s former radio and news paper colleagues have some hilarious stories to tell including; Teena Gates, Jimmy Grealy, Paul Howard (aka Ross O’Carroll Kelly), Hugh Cahill, Tommy Martin and Adrian Barry as well as Dermot and Dave.

Johnny’s other huge passions, cricket and music, won’t be forgotten! Hot Press editor Niall Stokes and Evening Herald journalist Eamon Carr will be live in studio along with former Irish cricket international Jonathan Garth and Johnny’s former Pembroke cricket team mate Johnny Bell.
