Dun Laoghaire residents have been promised a National Watersports Centre in the town's harbour within the next seven years.
The local Council says it can be delivered quickly and at a relatively low cost.
Councilors have voted down controversial plans to build berths for large cruise ships in the harbour and claim the 21 million Euro they'll save can be invested in the watersports centre instead.
It's hoped the building could include a restaurant and offer the public direct access onto the waterfront.
There were hopes that the old Dun Laoghaire baths - which have been derelict for years - might be resurrected, but it doesn't look likely.
