Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh has said she would have told organisers she was gay but the question never came up.
In an interview on the Late Late Show last night she said she has been openly gay for two years but organisers never asked her.
The newly crowned Rose added she would she be happy if ,during her reign, she can help even one young person deal with coming out as gay.
