Homeowners on the Southside are counting the cost following a recent crime spree, driven by gangs using devices that block alarm systems.

It's reported 23 homes have been hit in Foxrock over the past six weeks, with 100-grand worth of cash and jewellery taken from one house alone.

Estates hit in Dublin 18 include The Birches on Torquay Road, nearby Claremont Pines and Carrickmines Wood.

Security experts are warning of a rise in the use of GSM jammers which can be bought cheaply online, and can block monitored alarm systems across an entire estate.

Aaron Mooney from Alarm Control 24 explains how these GSM jammers work.
