Bids to design a 12 million euro pedestrian and cyce bridge over the Liffey are to be sought by Dublin City Council.
This bridge will provide a more direct pedestrian and cycle link from the northside to the grand canal docks and will relieve pressure on the Samuel Beckett bridge.
It will connect North Wall Quay to Forbes Street on Sir John Rogerson Quay.
It will be funded from levies collected through other construction projects.
The bridge will have the second greatest span across the river at 125 metres and is due to open in about 3 years.
Dublin City Council will look for companies to design the bridge in the coming weeks.
