Residents on a south inner city street are testing out a new secure bike shelter.

It’s part of Dublin City Council’s Beta project and if successful on John Dillon Street, could result in more hangers popping up across the city.

The shelter looks like an oversized bread bin, holds six bikes and takes up half a parking spot.

Only the owners of the bikes have access to the shelter.

It's hoped the project will encourage people to ditch four wheels for two.

It will be trialed for 3 months and then officials will see if it’s something to roll out city wide.

The idea seems popular already, over 100 submissions have been made.

You can get more information on Betaprojects.ie.
