More than 80 jobs are being lost with the closure of Boyers on North Earl Street.

Yesterday staff were told the well known department store will shut its doors for good in January. The store employs 48 people directly, and another 33 work for the company through concession stores.

David Fitzsimons, of Retail Excellence Ireland, says its a real shame:

The news comes just months after nearby department store Clery's was sold and shut down without warning.

The company has begun a consultation process with Boyers employees and their union representatives - and is said to be considering redeployment options.
